Canberra Kids SecuriDay 2021

K​ids SecuriDay is back in Canberra for another fantastic event for 2021!
Our August event is tied to National Science Week which will be hybrid delivery. The National Science Week schools theme is Food: Different by Design, so our theme will be too! 

What you need: a ticket, computer and internet connection.
What you get: participant swag bag sent prior to the event, mentoring in online forums from security professionals, fun talks, workshops, competitions and games.

Bookings are essential via our ticket site events.humanitix.com/cbr2021. The joining links and password for the event will be sent out to registered participants.

Cyber Chef

Do you want to know the quickest way to decode Base64 messages? Or perhaps you just need help with some capture the flag challenges? Join this short presentation to figure out how you can use CyberChef to make recipes to help you with solving some CTF (Capture the Flag) challenges. Along the way, you'll learn the differences between encoding and encrypting. Let's get cooking!

How much can we see?

Today we use the digital world for so many things, from cooking tutorials to communication and sharing life experiences. However, how many people can see what you are doing? Do you want everyone to be able to see what you are doing everyday online? How much can we see looks at what techniques baddies may use to find out about you, your life and what approaches can be take to choose who can see your digital life.

Kids Can Code

Code is the basis of our digital world. This workshop explores what we can do with code while also imparting industry best practices and lessons for life. Using Scratch students are introduced to coding, creating an adventure with a wizard space taco and showing them that with the power of code anything is possible.

Cybergames

Capture the flag games are puzzles based on real world information security vulnerabilities. Race against the clock solving complex and fun exercises gathering ‘flags’ to earn points.

Paige

Paige is a 14 year old student, currently studying year 9. She got her first taste of INFOSEC at Kids SecuriDay and is excited to get to share some things she's learned along the way. She keeps winning the CTFs so now she's helping make them instead!

Jessie Richardson 

Jessie has worked in ICT for more than 8 years across systems administration, web development, communications and training, and hardware refresh programs, but now works across various security programs. Jessie brings a focus to the importance of customer service and training in everything we do.

Bryan Nolen

For the last decade and a half, Bryan has performed Digital Forensics and Incident Response for some of the largest companies in the world. He is currently working as part of the team automating pirate incident detection and response for a mega-national household name.

Jacinda Erkelens​

Jacinda is an information assurance specialist and passionate about the strategic end of cyber security. Her roles involve assessing third party organisations, swashbuckling, software, and anything else that comes her way. Through her journey from student to professional, Jacinda often says the most valuable experiences included events like this one.​

Gyle dela Cruz

Gyle has a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary background. She completed her major in psychology before shifting to the tech industry and eventually focusing on cyber security. She received her Graduate Certificate in Incident Response from the SANS Institute and Master in Cyber Security – Digital Forensics from the UNSW Canberra Australian Defence Force Academy. Her day job involves doing incident response to help defend and protect her clients’ infrastructure. She volunteers to help encourage the next generation into considering careers in the tech and infosec industries.

Mitchell Pomery

Mitch is a Software Engineer who specializes in Application Security, Authentication and Authorization. In the past he has worked as a Builder's Assistant, Bouncy Castle Technician, Glitter Artist and Balloon Twister. He loves to think about how he could potentially break into everywhere and lets people know so they can improve their security.

Heidi Winter

Heidi is an security professional specialising in cyber security risk management, incident management and operations. She holds a Masters of Cyber Security Operations from UNSW, and has worked in IT for a long time before making the switch to cyber security, where she has had the opportunity to experience both government and enterprise environments.

Smidge

Smidge is a swashbuckling former Army signals intelligence operator and technical signals analyst. He has a passion for automation and improving workflows, and is a hobbyist hacker / OSINT competition winner causing problems on purpose for the greater good.
